Richland students’ lunch debts are all officially paid off

Children of furloughed federal employees may be eligible for free school lunches

RICHLAND, Wash. – Lunch debts for all Richland students have officially been paid off!

The Richland School District announced Monday that negative balances on student meal accounts in its elementary schools were paid off last week through donations to the Super Hero Lunch Fund.

Thanks to additional contributions that came in over the weekend, all middle and high school students will have any negative balances cleared as well.

This was largely made possible by Tumbleweeds, a Mexican restaurant in Richland that raised more than $4,000 by selling a specialty burrito and donating proceeds to the Super Hero Lunch Fund. 

The school district said Numerica Credit Union donated another $1,470.60 to the fund.
