‘Scarytines’ bring frighteningly fun twist to Valentine’s Day in the Yakima Valley

YAKIMA VALLEY, Wash. — While many people will send loved ones flowers, gifts or even singing telegrams this Valentine’s Day, some Yakima Valley residents are in for a scary-good time.

In a twist on the traditional telegram delivery, Madd Hatters Haunt in Union Gap is offering to send “killer” valentines delivered by popular horror movie characters.

“It gets your heart racing just a little bit more than a normal valentine,” said Barb Petrea, co-owner of Madd Hatters Haunt.

Senders can choose from four different killers: Pennywise from “It,” Sam from “Trick ‘r Treat,” Jason Voorhees from “Friday the 13th,” or Michael Myers from “Halloween.”

Each comes with a heart-shaped valentine that says, “You’re a killer valentine,” as well as a “handler,” someone who can speak for the horror movie favorites and explain why they’re at the front door.

“It’s something that will be very memorable for everybody,” Petrea said.

Scaretines are $30 each, with the option to add a box of chocolates or a dozen donuts for an extra $10.

Local delivery is available for all characters on Friday, Feb. 14. Pennywise will also be delivering scarytines Thursday, Feb. 13 to the Lower Valley.
