FINLEY, Wash. — Fire units, medics and emergency responders rushed to the side of a rural Benton County roadway on Wednesday night after a semi-truck carrying cattle veered off the roadway and rolled into a ditch.

According to a social media alert from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of a semi rollover collision at the intersection of Coffin Rd and 9 Canyon Rd on the evening of May 11, 2022. Upon arrival, authorities found that the truck, which was hauling a large group of cows, veered off the side of the road.

Benton County officials say that the cows were then trapped inside the trailer. Deputies, fire crews, and staff members from Easterday Farms pitched in to remove the cattle. Further plans were made to remove the truck from the ditch on the side of this rural Benton County roadway.

Shortly after, Benton County investigators determined that the cause of the collision was inattention on the part of the driver. Authorities say the driver escaped the accident without injuries. However, it’s unclear if any cows were seriously injured as a result of this accident.

Sheriff’s Office team members offered the following notice to community members in their social media post: “Benton County Sheriff’s Office urges all our drivers on the roadway to please be safe when driving and do not allow distractions when traveling. Be safe.”
