Senate unanimously passes bill to make feminine hygiene products free in Washington schools
OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Senate unanimously passed a bill that would make sure girls have access to free feminine hygiene products in Washington public schools.
Senate Bill 6073 passed 48-0, Washington Senate Democrats said on Wednesday.
Under the bill, Washington school districts would have to provide free tampons and sanitary pads in all women’s and gender-neutral bathrooms, grades six through 12.
The products would be paid for by the districts, according to the bill. They could do so by seeking grants or partnering with nonprofit organizations to help.
The bill now heads to the Washington State House of Representatives for consideration.
