Sesame Street Live! performing in Yakima for the first time
YAKIMA, Wash. — Elmo and his friends are visiting Yakima for the first time this week.
Sesame Street Live! Make Your Magic is making a quick stop on its national tour for three performances between Tuesday and Wednesday at the Yakima Valley Sundome.
“We’re so excited to bring Sesame Street Live! to the Yakima area,” show host Justin Baret said.
The show centers on Elmo’s determination as he struggles to learn a magic trick after a traveling magician comes to the neighborhood.
Justin said his favorite scene is called Don’t Give Up, where he and Elmo’s friends reassure him that if he keeps trying and doesn’t give up, he’ll succeed.
“It’s so applicable to everyday life, not only for three-year-olds, but all the way up to our grandparents,” Justin said.
Elmo and friends learn “the power of yet”: with practice and perseverance, nothing can stand in the way of your dreams.
The production features characters Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Cookie Monster and Big Bird, as well as Chef Gongor, who is making his Sesame Street Live! debut.
The cast is touring all over the country as Sesame Street celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
Sesame Street Live! Make Your Magic has a performance at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Yakima Valley Sundome and two performances Wednesday, one at 2 p.m. and another at 5 p.m. The show runs about an hour-and-a-half.
Tickets range from $15 to $67 depending on seating and are available at sesamestreetlive.com.
Attendees can also purchase a ticket to the Sesame Street Live! pre-show experience for an additional $25.
The pre-show experience includes a meet-and-greet and photo-op with Elmo and friends, as well as a tour of the on-stage neighborhood, a scavenger hunt for “a special prize” and up-close magic.
