Shaw & Sons funeral home celebrates new owners, 120 years of business
As of Friday, Shaw & Sons funeral home is owned by Jamin and Kara Mohler, the same family who own and run the Brookside Funeral Home and Crematory in Moxee and Ellensburg.

Shaw & Sons funeral home celebrated its 120th anniversary over the weekend, commemorating more than a century of serving the Yakima Valley, but also its future.

As of Friday, the business is owned by Jamin and Kara Mohler, the same family that owns and runs the Brookside Funeral Home and Crematory in Moxee and Ellensburg.

“[Shaw & Sons has] once again become a family-owned, local, neighbor-serving-neighbor funeral home,” Jamin said.

Shaw & Sons opened its doors in 1899 as a family furniture business — that also did undertaking. For four generations, the business continued to be owned and operated by the family.

In the late 1980s, the business fell under new ownership and continued to be transferred from corporation to corporation for years.

But with the Mohlers’ purchase, the business is once-again family-owned. The previous owners — Orlando-based company Foundation Partners — contacted the Mohlers’ earlier this year about possibly purchasing the business because of their established relationship.

Because Shaw & Sons doesn’t have an on-site crematorium, the funeral home’s cremations are handled by Brookside.
