Six people hospitalized in car crash along Rimrock Lake

YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. — A two-car accident on the eastbound lane of U.S. 12 sent six people including three teenagers to the hospital on Monday afternoon. According to a memo from the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the collision occurred along Rimrock Lake, which is roughly 25 miles west of Naches.

A WSP investigation determined that both vehicles were headed eastbound on SR 12 near milepost 164; just along Rimrock Lake. The first vehicle, a 2010 Buick LaCrosse, was being driven by a 21-year-old male driver. He reportedly slowed down and attempted to make an illegal U-Turn. The second vehicle, a 2020 Ram 2500 with a cargo trailer attached, did not have enough time to react and crashed into the first vehicle.

Five people were in the second car and four of them are reported injured by the WSP. The victims are a family from Toppenish that had and one additional passenger who was also hurt in the crash. The only uninjured member of the group was a 12-year-old girl. Each of them reportedly wore their seatbelts.

As for the first vehicle, both the driver and his 17-year-old passenger were injured. All six of the people involved were brought to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital, formerly known as Virginia Mason Memorial Hospital.

None of the vehicles were reported as totaled and it’s been confirmed that impairment from drugs and/or alcohol did not play a factor in the accident.

The status of the individuals hurt in this accident is unclear at this time.
