Six student-made wines win awards at Tri-Cities Wine Festival

Students of Yakima Valley Vintner’s teaching winery received six awards for their student-made wines at the 2019 Tri-Cities Wine Festival on Saturday.

The Dean’s List Merlot and Lemberger each took gold medals, while the Primitivo, Semester Abroad Sangiovese, and Research Paper Roussanne took silver. The History Class Pinot Gris was awarded a bronze.

All wines were judged blindly by a panel of wine professionals, with student wines matched against commercial wineries. 324 wines were judged over the three days leading up to the festival.

The student wines were made as a part of course work in YVC’s Vineyard & Wine Technology program.

“Going six for six with wines submitted and awards received speaks a lot about the student’s abilities as winemaking professionals,” stated YVC Vineyard and Winery Technology Instructor Trent Ball in a statement.
