Slick Roads Cause Accidents Across County

This morning’s cold snap created a stir for not only motorists, but students and travelers as well.

According to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received almost two dozen crash reports across the county.

That includes an 11-car pileup on the Yakima Valley Highway.

Roads were so slick, school districts such as Wapato, East Valley and Zillah canceled classes for students.

The Yakima Airport closed for several hours this morning, while things warmed up.

One driver says he barely made it out of his own neighborhood with all the ice.

“Earlier this morning, when I tried backing out of my driveway, I almost hit one of those electrical poles,” said Jorden Cruz, “And going to the gas station, I was sliding everywhere. It was really hard to tell which part of the road was icy and which part was not.”

Tthe Department of Transportation the best advice for driving in the ice is to slow down, You never know what wet spots might be frozen over.
