Snow storm causes EB Snoqualmie Pass to close a third time in one day
SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. — If you’re planning on traveling through the passes today, you may want to think again.
Snoqualmie Pass eastbound is closed at milepost 45 for the third time since Thursday morning. There is also an avalanche warning in effect through 6 p.m. for much of the Washington Cascades.
Eastbound lanes closed around 8:30 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and most recently at about 1 p.m. as a result of numerous crashes and spinouts due to snow, slush and ice on the roadways. The estimated time of reopening is unknown.
Chains are required in westbound lanes for all vehicles except those with all-wheel drive.
Snow is falling, heavy at times, throughout the Cascades, which is dramatically affecting travel throughout the passes.
A winter storm warning projected between 10 and 20 inches of snow to accumulate in the highest parts of the Cascades through Thursday night.
