Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich responds to death threats
SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating online threats against Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich.
Hear his remarks on the situation below:
Investigators said someone on Tuesday reported a Facebook post threatening to kill Sheriff Knezovich and other sheriffs who have stated they won’t enforce I-1639, the initiative passed by Washington voters in November that bans people under the age of 21 from buying a semi-automatic rifle and creates safe-storage requirements for firearms.
According to the person who called Crime Check, a non-emergency line for Spokane County, the threats were posted on a shared news story about the Grant County Sheriff announcing that he won’t enforce I-1639.
According to the caller, the post stated Sheriff Knezovich is going to get a bullet in his skull. The caller said another threat posted by the person stated he would shoot sheriffs that don’t back I-1639.
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said it checked the Facebook account with the name that the caller provided and found a comment referencing Republicans stating, “i am going to kill every single one of them.”
Investigators said they found more posts referencing I-1639 that stated, “sheriffs that are non compliant will be shot. by me.” and “Ozzie Knezovich is gonna get a bullet in his skull.”
The Sheriff’s Office said detectives are investigating the threat and the information will be forwarded to law enforcement agencies across the state.
