Spurned by date gone wrong, Richland PD finally gets their man

It pays to read the comments. They may sometimes include the best and worst of humanity, but entertainment abounds.

In this case, a wanted man turned himself in — and played into a local police department’s narrative of a date gone wrong.

The story began last Wednesday when the Richland Police Department requested help from the public in locating a wanted man, 38-year-old Anthony Akers.

Wanted Wednesday! Anthony Akers (38) is wanted by the Department of Corrections for Failure to Comply. If you have any information please call 509-628-0333.

Well, several days passed and RPD still didn’t have their man. So the department decided to post again to Facebook, once again showing their interest in connecting with Mr. Akers.

Police wrote that Akers had agreed to turn himself in but failed to do so. “You stood us up,” they wrote.

It seems neither side wanted to be the jilted party. An it’s-not-you-it’s-me apology appeared below the second post.

“I obviously have commitment issues. I apologize for standing you up, but let me make it up to you. I will be there no later then lunchtime tomorrow,” the message said.

The next day, Akers apparently paid police a visit, posting a photo of his arrival — also to the comments section.

The Benton County jail log confirms Akers was booked Tuesday afternoon.

All’s well that ends well, we suppose. Now grab the popcorn and head to the comments section for GIF- and meme-related merriment.
