Students from Central Washington participate in annual Science Olympiad Tournament
YAKIMA, Wash. — The 7th Annual South Central Washington Science Olympiad Regional Tournament took place on Saturday, Jan. 26 at Yakima Valley College.
Nearly 150 students participated in the tournament put together by Heritage University, Pacific Northwest University of Health Science and Yakima Valley College.
Middle school students throughout Central Washington participated in over 20 STEM-related competitions.
Trent Cellner is a student at West Valley Junior High was a first-time participant.
“It felt nerve-racking participating but it also felt good,” said Cellner.
Jordan Memmott is a medical student at PNWU and decided to be a volunteer judge.
” M y two associates and I are judging the rollercoaster projects,” said Memmott. “Hopefully next year I’m able to get some of my classmates to come out here.”
The team with the highest overall score will move on to the state competition in April.
