Suspect arrested after using BB gun in an attempt to steal semi-truck in Kennewick

KENNEWICK, Wash. — The Kennewick Police Department arrested an armed robbery suspect early Monday morning after he allegedly tried to steal a semi-truck, according to police.
Police responded to the 1100 block of Columbia Center Blvd. near Target around 12:45 a.m. after a truck driver reported that someone was trying to break into his truck.

The truck driver reported that the suspect pointed a gun at him during the attempted robbery, according to police.
The Kennewick Police Department says officers arrived to the scene “almost immediately” and saw the suspect pointing a gun at the truck driver.
Police say the suspect complied with officers orders to drop the weapon, but tried to run away from the scene. Officers were able to catch the suspect soon after he tried to run, according to Kennewick police.
The Kennewick Police Department says they’re familiar with the suspect and his mental health status. Police did not name the suspect due to him receiving mental health treatment.

Police say the gun used in the attempted robbery was a BB gun.
The suspect was booked into the Benton County Jail for first degree assault, first degree robbery, and on a warrant.
The Kennewick Police Department believes the suspect is not involved in any other robbery investigations.
