Suspect arrested in Pierce County deputy’s killing

A second suspect is in custody in connection with the murder of a Pierce County Sheriff’s deputy, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.

The 32-year-old was arrested shortly after 8 a.m. when a Washington State trooper spotted a suspicious person in an area where police had set up a search perimeter, KOMO News reports.

Deputy Daniel McCartney, 34, was shot responding to a 911 call about a home invasion late Sunday night. He was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries on Monday morning.

The first suspect, described as being in his mid-30s, died at the scene. Authorities have not released either of their identities.
