BENTON COUNTY, Wash. — Deputies arrested a drunk driver who hit another car then took off from authorities.

The driver was in the Benton City area when 54-year-old Mario Sarmiento allegedly hit another driver. Benton County deputies say he didn’t stop. They found him several miles away on Old Inland Empire Highway.

Sarmiento also didn’t stop for deputies. He made it to Prosser where spike strips were placed. The suspect continued going west until he ran into an empty canal.

The driver then ran out of the canal, but deputies were able to catch him. During the arrest, meth was found on him.
