SWAT standoff in Kennewick ends peacefully

(UPDATE Friday morning) — After a prolonged standoff, the Tri-City Regional SWAT Team was able to gain access to the home overnight.

The suspect, 37-year-old Matthew Bunting, gave up and was taken into custody.

Bunting was wanted for several outstanding warrants and officers were searching for him during the recent gang sweep.

The convicted felon was booked into the Benton County Jail on outstanding arrest warrants for escape and harassment; additional charges may be brought against him.

The area, which was closed late Thursday night, was reopened early Friday.

ORIGINAL STORY — Kennewick police are currently dealing with a wanted, barricaded suspect on the 800 Block of West Klamath who is allegedly armed.

The Tri-City Regional SWAT has been activated and is telling people to please avoid the area.
