Judge rejects settlement for man fatally shot by police

(AP) - The family of a man shot to death after throwing rocks at police can't agree on who should receive a $750,000 settlement.So, the Tri-City Herald reports , a judge has rejected the offer and placed the civil case on hold for four months while the lawyers of Antonio Zambrano-Montes' family work out an agreement.

Transgender inmate settles Oregon lawsuit over medical care

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - The Oregon Department of Corrections has settled a lawsuit filed on behalf of a transgender inmate who said she was denied medical care.The American Civil Liberties Union of Oregon said Michelle Wright had been subjected to cruel and unusual punishment because she was denied hormone treatment and counseling.The suit said the inmate was diagnosed with gender dysphoria and has attempted suicide several times while in custody.

State to pay $1.87M to 4 kids sexually abused at day care

MARYSVILLE, Wash. (AP) - The state of Washington has agreed to pay $1.87 million to four children who were sexually assaulted at a day care center.The Seattle Times reports ( ) the state agreed to the payment to settle a lawsuit brought on behalf of the children for abuse at Moore's All Hours Daycare in Marysville.
