King County deputy fired after assault conviction

SEATTLE (AP) - The King County Sheriff has fired a deputy who was convicted of an assault that happened while he was a Detroit police officer.The Seattle Times reports Sheriff Mitzi Johanknecht fired Deputy Edward Hicks on Thursday after the undersheriff recommended his termination.Johanknecht said that the office was unable to maintain his employment because their policy clearly provides that they cannot employ anyone with a felony criminal conviction.
