Teen arrested for allegedly stabbing 70-year-old woman
UPDATE (10:15 p.m.) — Kennewick Police have arrested a teen suspected of stabbing a 70-year-old woman after trying to rob her.
On-duty SWAT members arrested the suspect at a home near Gum Street and 10th Avenue around 9:30 p.m., only a few hours after the stabbing.
According to Kennewick Police Sgt. Jason Kiel, the 16-year-old boy stabbed the woman on her side when she told him she didn’t have any money as he was trying to rob her. Officers got information earlier today and earlier in the week that a person who fit the same description had committed some thefts in the area.
Detectives obtained photos, identified the teen and showed a photo line-up to the woman. She identified the 16-year-old as the person who stabbed her.
Police arrested the teen at the home for suspicion of assault in the second degree and will be booked into the juvenile detention center. Detectives believe the teen could be involved in the thefts and other crimes, but will continue to investigate. Officers are still looking for the weapon through a search warrant.
Two other people were detained, but not involved in the crimes.
KENNEWICK, Wash. — Police are searching for an armed robber who stabbed a 70-year-old woman outside a Kennewick apartment complex Wednesday afternoon.
A man wearing a gray hoodie stabbed the woman in the parking lot of the Desert Villa Apartments on S. Washington St. and W. Sixth Ave. around 5 p.m., according to the Kennewick Police Department.
The woman was transported to a local hospital that injuries that did not appear life-threatening.
The robber fled before officers arrived. He is described as a Hispanic man who stands at about 5-foot-5.
