Tesla Winery Tours: An inside look
WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Big technology? Meet small town Walla Walla.
To Jim Wright, his Tesla may be his pride and joy, but it’s also his office.
“This is the first time that I’ve ever had a job that isn’t work,” he said.
As a wine tour guide, Wright fits into the Walla Walla vibe, but his Tesla makes the experience a little different.
The car has automatic doors and automatic driving. It’s also environmentally friendly with zero gas emissions.
“Everything that we do is geared toward the experience of the wineries, the wines, the views (and) the Tesla,” he said.
Wright takes his guests from winery to winery in the Walla Walla Valley.
“They are all different, they are all unique, everyone has their own special thing,” said Wright.
The work day is a bit of a turn from his 30 years in law enforcement in Los Angeles and later Las Vegas.
“I wanted to deal with happy people, fun people, interesting people instead of bad people and horrible circumstances like I have my whole life,” he said. “I just wanted to find something new so I had an interest in Tesla from the very beginning and when I saw the wine tours out here in town, I thought well this will be a real interesting spin,” he said.
Wright’s favorite part of the job is meeting interesting people from all over.
“I’ve had people come as far away as Uruguay, China, Germany…” he said. “It’s a lot of fun because you never know who you’re going to find.”
Many say all good things come to an end, but that may not always be the case.
“I would like to drive and show people the area as long as I can,” he said.
