Toppenish teen arrested for bringing gun to school
TOPPENISH, Wash. — A 14-year-old student at Toppenish Middle School was arrested Thursday for bringing a gun on campus.
School administrators reported the gun to the Toppenish Police Department around 1:30 p.m., after another student who knew about the gun reported it to staff members.
Investigators said they do not believe the student intended to use the gun on a staff member or another student.
They said he was “having issues with other individuals outside of the school and felt the need to carry the firearm,” according to a post from the police department’s Facebook page.
The student was booked into juvenile detention and police confiscated the weapon.
Police said they believe the school district sent out a brief recorded statement to notify parents and guardians about the incident.
