Tri-Cities firefighters raising money for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

PASCO, Wash. — Firefighters from across the Tri-Cities are raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society ahead of the Seattle Stairclimb.

The Pasco Fire Department has teamed up with other departments and districts to collect funds for the cause. For many of them, they have a personal stake in the charity.

“It means we’re helping someone,” said Ty Schoenwald, a Pasco firefighter. “We’ve had a few people that we’ve known personally that have been affected by leukemia and so for me it’s a really cool way to give back.”

On Saturday, Pasco and Franklin County District #3 firefighters will be at Yoke’s on Road 68 from 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. They’ll be back out on Sunday, but they’ll also have people at the Richland Gold’s Gym starting at 8 a.m.

“It’s really cool for each of the area departments to kind of just band together and try and raise as much money as we can — pull as many resources as we can to achieve our goal,” Schoenwald explained.

At the gym, firefighters will go on a stairclimber in full gear. They’re preparing for the annual stair climb on March 8, 2020. It takes place at the Columbia Center in Downtown Seattle. So far, the Pasco Fire Department more than $2,000 so far.

The Pasco Fire Department will also be collecting money nearly every weekend up until the stair climb. Here’s a list of the locations they have scheduled at this time:

  • Jan. 19: Kennewick Gold’s Gym
  • Jan. 24-25: Tri-City Family Expo
