Tri-Cities man beats out hundreds to win $50,000 smile makeover

After being hesitant about showing his teeth all his life, one man in Tri-Cities will soon be able to flash a smile worth thousands of dollars.

On Tuesday, doctors at Columbia Basin Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons announced the recipient of their annual Smile Again program, which awards a free, full-arch restoration to one deserving member of the community.

Brian Willard, who works as a local delivery driver and is a single parent of two kids, was this year’s winner.

“For me I think it will give me my confidence back,” said Willard, who is missing most of his front teeth. “I don’t like talking to people because of my teeth so this will help a lot.”

Doctors at Columbia Basin combed through hundreds of applicants, and they interviewed 40 people before choosing Willard.

This is the fourth year they’ve held the program, and Dr. Todd Cooper said the employees always look forward to announcement day.

“We saw such a high number of people that needed full mouth reconstruction and couldn’t afford it,” said Dr. Cooper, “We wanted to have a program that would give back to the Tri-Cities and really take care of our own people.”
