Tumblegeddon is over!

A heap of tumbleweeds that caused massive traffic delays near Richland on New Year’s Eve went up on flames Thursday.

Several cars became trapped in a swarm of tumbleweeds on SR 240 near the Hanford Site on Dec. 31. The roadway was blocked in both directions for about 10 hours as crews cleared the road, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The Washington State Department of Transportation says Hanford firefighters conducted a controlled burn to destroy some of the tumbleweeds that caused the mess.

After some minor traffic delays, the firefighters completed the job by 1 p.m.
