Tumbleweeds keeps Cafeteria Burrito on the menu
RICHLAND, Wash. – Tumbleweeds’ Cafeteria Burrito, which raised over $4,000 to pay off school lunch debts for Richland students, is back on the menu indefinitely.
The Mexican restaurant introduced the Cafeteria Burrito for $5 in mid-November with 50% of all proceeds going toward the Richland School District’s Super Hero Lunch Fund, which pays off students’ negative meal balances.
The school district announced Monday that, with Tumbleweeds’ help, all debts for students within the school district had been cleared.
The next day, Jan. 7, the restaurant said meal balances were “back in the red,” and that student lunch debt is “an ongoing issue which is never fully resolved.”
That being said, Tumbleweeds announced that it’s keeping the Cafeteria Burrito on the menu into 2020 with “long term purpose in mind.”
The price of the burrito has been adjusted to $6 with $0.50 from each burrito being donated to the Richland School District’s Super Hero Lunch Fund.
Tumbleweeds is located at 894 Stevens Dr. in Richland.
