U.S. Senator Cantwell talks possible Hanford Reach funding cuts
Hanford Reach possible funding cuts
YAKIMA, Wash. — U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell met with agriculture leaders in Yakima to discuss trade and other issues Saturday.
When our team asked Cantwell to elaborate on some of the other issues, here is what she had to say about President Donald Trump’s effort to cut funding of national monuments, including possibly at Hanford Reach.
“It’s very disappointing to me that the president and the interior secretary are saying that Hanford Reach is up for renegotiation. I don’t think that people in this region want such a special place to now be reopened for discussion and maybe taken away. “
Going forward Cantwell says she is going to fight any legislative attempt made by president Donald Trump.
Cantwell also said Trump will likely be challenged in court by many others who don’t believe he has the legal standing to actually cut funding for national monuments.
