Uncle Sam’s Saloon create menu item to pay off Kennewick school lunch debt

Inspired by another restaurant, Uncle Sam’s Saloon will now serve a new sandwich to help pay off the lunch debt of children in the Kennewick School District.

According to Shirley Gray, owner of the saloon, they were inspired by Tumbleweeds. Two weeks ago, they created a burrito called the “cafeteria burrito.” Half of their proceeds of the burrito is paying off school lunch debt for Richland students.

Uncle Sam’s Saloon is calling their menu item “The Chip Away.” It’ll be a grilled beef and cheddar sandwich served with chips with no substitutions. The sandwich will be $10 and half of the sales will go to the negative lunch balances at the Kennewick School District.

Another employee at the saloon told KAPP-KVEW they were brainstorming ideas with different ways to donate to the community.

The program at Uncle Sam’s Saloon launched today and will be available indefinitely.
