Undersheriff starts new role as interim sheriff
KENNEWICK, Wash. — Undersheriff Jerry Hatcher served his first full day as interim Benton County Sheriff on Monday.
His new role follows former Sheriff Steve Keane’s retirement.
Hatcher has been working for the Benton County Sheriff’s Office for several years, moving up through the ranks and eventually becoming Undersheriff.
He said Monday felt a little different because of his new position, but he’s used to the responsibility, having filled in for the former sheriff many times while he dealt with his health.
“I love Benton County and I love serving the citizens of Benton County and I am committed to public safety and so to me being the final authority, starting today, it was very much an honor for me,” said Hatcher.
The interim sheriff will be running to become the permanent sheriff alongside several others in the fall.
