Victim in fatal crash identified as Hermiston High School teen

HERMISTON, Ore. — The Hermiston School District will provide support to students and staff at Hermiston High School on Monday after the death of a student.

Brett Jewett, a sophomore, died in a crash on New Year’s Day. The accident happened on Highway 207, south of Hermiston. It involved two separate vehicles, according to the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office.

Details surrounding the crash have not been released. However, Jewett died from his injuries.

“Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family, students, friends and others affected by this loss,” the school district said in a press release.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
