Waitsburg detectives serve search warrants during homicide investigation
WAITSBURG, Wash. — Detectives from the Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office (WWSO) have served a handful of search warrants while investigating a possible homicide that took place in Waitsburg.
Though details are limited at this stage of the process, the Sheriff’s Office offered preliminary information about their findings. It began on June 17, 2022 when they received a tip about a possible homicide, leading them to launch an investigation in partnership with the county’s regional task force.
They began by conducting interviews to assess the validity of the report. This process lasted through the weekend, resulting in a judge’s decision to issue search warrants for vehicles, outbuildings and residences on the 700-block of Maple St in Waitsburg. Then on June 20, 2022, the Walla Walla Regional SWAT team was cleared to serve the warrants.
The following day, SWAT teams and WWSO detectives established themselves at the scene and served the warrants. During the process, several people were identified and contacted—although it’s unclear if they were specified as suspects in the homicide. Additional crews from the Washington State Crime Scene Response team arrived at the scene to help with processing the scene and collecting forensic evidence.
That is the extent of the information made available to the public at this stage of the process. However, Walla Walla County officials noted that they will release more information as the investigation moves into its next stages.
Anyone with information that might help detectives working on this homicide investigation is urged to contact dispatch at 509-527-3265 and reference case No. 2022-4656.
