WALLA WALLA, Wash. — A $50,000 grant from Northwest Farm Credit Services will help Walla Walla County Fire District #8 respond to trickier emergencies.

According to Fire Chief Bob Clendaniel, the funds are donated in order to support the needs of rural communities served by Northwest agriculture, food and fiber industries.

One of the needs identified by the fire district’s Board of Fire Commissioners is a side-by-side 4×4 ATV emergency medical/fire response vehicle.

With this new funding, plans are in the works to purchase the vehicle, equipped with snow tracks for winter usage and wildland firefighting equipment to access more areas that other emergency vehicles cannot.

The award will also fund personal protective equipment for Walla Walla County Fire District #8’s volunteer firefighters.
