Walla Walla VA hosts first LGBT veteran treatment meeting
WALLA WALLA, Wash. — The Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VA Medical Center will host a meeting Monday to discuss the welfare and treatment of LGBT veterans.
“LGBT Veterans face increased health risks and unique challenges in accessing quality healthcare,” a statement on the federal VA website said. “The VA strives to be a national leader in the provision of health care to LGBT Veterans and assure that care is provided in a sensitive, safe environment at VA health facilities nationwide.”
In a press release from the Walla Walla VA’s Suicide Prevention Coordinator and LGBT Veteran’s Care Coordinator Celena Veverka, the event is the local VA’s first LGBT stakeholders meeting. LGBT veterans, family members and allies are encouraged to attend.
The conversation will surround ways to invest in treatment and care of LGBT veterans at the local VAMC. Similar resources and fact sheets are posted on the national VA web page for LGBT veterans.
The community is invited to join the meeting starting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, November 13 at the Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VA Medical Center’s Willamette Conference Room (building 143, room 1255).
