LOOKING AHEAD: Seattle Seahawks’ 2022 season schedule

Veteran quarterback Geno Smith is slated to lead the Seahawks into battle at the dawn of a new era for Seattle’s most beloved professional sports organization. Although the team hit the reset button in a major way by trading Wilson and moving on from future Hall of Fame linebacker Bobby Wagner, this is one matchup that they’ll want to capitalize on.

Wilson, who spent a full decade of his career playing for the Seattle Seahawks, increasingly voiced his frustrations with the team over several seasons, leading him to get traded ahead of a contract year. Heading into this season, the Denver Broncos opted to sign him to a $245 million extension, effectively locking Wilson into the third-most expensive contract in pro football. The 34-year-old quarterback won’t become a free agent again until 2029.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks enter a transitionary season in which Smith battled with up-and-comer Drew Lock through training camp to take the role. Although these are their options in the short-term, it’s widely considered that the Seattle Seahawks will use this season to evaluate their talent, work toward attaining their next franchise QB and re-establish head coach Pete Carroll’s beloved ground-and-pound style that highlights gritty, physical defense and a versatile running game.

Following a full slate of NFL games, the Seattle Seahawks ironically hold the top position in a heated NFC West division. Their division rivals — the Los Angeles Rams, Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers — all lost in their season openers.
