Large fire destroys West Richland home, boat and vehicle Monday morning

WEST RICHLAND, Wash. — A large fire destroyed a West Richland home, boat and vehicle Monday morning, according to Benton County Fire District 4.

Firefighters responded to a fire that started in the garage of a home on the 5600 block of W. Lattin Rd. near Keene Road at 9:41 a.m. When they arrived, the fire had overtaken the garage and spread to the home.

Fire Capt. Bonnie Benitz said a female was inside when the fire broke out. She escaped safely prior to crews’ arrival.

Benitz confirmed that the structure, boat and vehicle are a total loss. The cause is under investigation.

Benton REA cut power to about 165 customers in order to keep firefighters safe. Utility crews were working to restore power as soon as possible.

Richland Fire, Benton County Fire Protection District 2, West Richland Police and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
