WHL suspends Americans’ hockey activities after player tests positive for COVID-19

Americans hockey activities paused for positive COVID-19 test

KENNEWICK, Wash. — The Western Hockey League (WHL) announced Saturday that the Tri-City Americans have to suspend all hockey activities, including three games, because a player tested positive for the coronavirus.

The WHL postponed two games over the weekend against the Spokane Chiefs, and the game Wednesday against the Seattle Thunderbirds.

The league is working with the Washington State Department of Health to determine potential close contacts and further tests.

In a press release, the team says they will not identify the player who tested positive for COVID-19.

The WHL is expected to provide an update on when the team can resume activities.
