Woman shot and killed while riding in car on I-82 in Yakima

YAKIMA, Wash. — A woman was shot and killed while riding in a car on I-82 in Yakima just after midnight on Saturday.

According to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, a man was driving with the woman in the passenger seat when someone in another car shot at them between exits 31 and 33.

The woman was shot but the man was uninjured.

He took exit 26 and pulled over at the Chevron gas station on Firing Center Road near the Yakima Training Center and notified law enforcement, said sheriff’s office spokesman Casey Schilperoort.

The woman was rushed to Virginia Mason Memorial hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her name has not been released.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

The motive of the shooting is under investigation.
