Troopers: Intoxicants were involved in wrong-way crash that injured 2 on I-182

PASCO, Wash. — Troopers said 23-year-old Luis Nunez was likely under the influence when he caused a wrong-way head-on crash on I-182 that injured himself and his passenger Tuesday afternoon.

Nunez, a Basin City resident, was driving westbound on the eastbound off ramp of I-182 at Fourth Avenue when he struck an eastbound pickup in his Chevy Cruze just before 1 p.m.

Both Nunez and his passenger, 24-year-old Ismael Campos of Pasco, were not wearing seatbelts. They were transported to Kadlec, at least one of them with serious injuries. Their conditions were not immediately available.

The other driver, 48-year-old Jason Etzler of Kennewick, did not require medical attention.

Both Nunez’ Chevy Cruze and Etzler’s Dodge Ram pickup were totaled.

Charges are pending for Nunez. The cause remains under investigation.
