WSP: At least 8 crashes within a couple hours on I-82 south of Kennewick
BENTON COUNTY, Wash. — The Washington State Patrol responded to at least eight crashes within a couple hours on Interstate 82 due to heavy snow Monday afternoon.
Trooper Andres Martinez said the crashes happened between milepost 120 and 130 toward the Washington-Oregon border. The calls started coming in around noon as snow began to pile up on the roadway.
He said most of them involved a single vehicle, and all of the drivers at fault were cited for driving too fast for the conditions.
The crashes included multiple rollovers, slide-offs and one rear-end collision. One of the crashes involved a semi-truck that slid into a guardrail.
Only a couple minor injuries were reported, said Trooper Martinez.
He advised drivers to go slow in the area as there are emergency crews working to clean up the crashes.
The roadway is open in both directions.
