WSP says “unsafe passing” caused fatal collision near Royal City

GRANT CO., Wash — Washington State Patrol says a 70-year-old woman from Seattle died in a crash on SR 26 near Royal City Wednesday night.

The collision happened around 8:19 p.m. Wednesday night approximately three miles from Royal City in Grant County.

Washington State Patrol said in a press release that the vehicle driven by Marcella Gulick, 70, passed a semi-truck and collided head-on with another vehicle.

Trooper John Bryant reported that the driver of the other vehicle, a 20-year-old man from Royal City, was airlifted to Central Washington Hospital. The man was later airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Washington State Patrol says the cause of the crash was “unsafe passing.”

Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Washington State Patrol has not released the name of the woman.
