WSP to crack down on studded tires
KENNEWICK, Wash. — If you still have studded tires on, Friday is the last day to get them taken off before getting a ticket.
Steve Sakach over at “Steve’s Tires and Auto Repair” in Kennewick said studded tires are harmful to bare roads, often tearing up the pavement but also wearing your studs.
Friday, March 31 is the deadline to get these tires removed, or you could face a fine.
“Don’t wait until the last minute like everybody does, if you’re going to pull in the last minute, you’re going to be waiting because everybody is going to wait,” said Sakach. “I have heard from the Washington State Patrol, I talked to a guy a couple days ago, they are going to hit it a little harder this year,” he said.
The ticket is $136 in Washington state and $200 in Oregon.
Most tire and auto repair shops close early on the weekend.
Sakach said the sooner you come in, the better.
