WSU QB Anthony Gordon nearly flawless in 58-7 win over NMSU

With a packed crowd in Martin Stadium, redshirt senior Anthony Gordon stepped up to deliver a near-perfect performance at quarterback, passing for five touchdowns in a 58-7 win over New Mexico State.

In the first half, he was 22/23 for 330 yards and four touchdowns. The first was a 41-yard strike in the first drive of the game to Spokane native and East Valley grad Rodrick Fisher.

New Mexico State scored after that, fumbling at the goal line and recovering to tie the game at 7.

Touchdown catches from Gordon to Dezmon Patmon, Easop Winston Jr., and two to Travell Harris helped the Cougs put the game away by the middle of the third quarter. Sophomore runningback Max Borghi added a rushing touchdown as well.

Gordon finished the game 29-35 for 420 yards.

Post game reaction:

If you thought holding NMSU to 7 points, and scoreless for 3.5 quarters would make the defense happy, Will Taylor III would like a word. #Cougs pic.twitter.com/6ZNrbDzGSi
