Yakama tribal woman arrested following high-speed chase

A woman is in jail after leading police on a high-speed chase on Saturday morning in Toppenish.

At approximately 1:20 a.m., Officer Rosenow saw a vehicle speeding on Frontage Road next to a local homeless camp in Toppenish.

The driver made an illegal u-turn at a stop sign onto Highway 97 and began driving at 80 mph where the speed limit is 55 mph.

The suspect tried to get away, and at times drove nearly 100 mph. Police say the woman drove through a hop field too.

After driving recklessly for several minutes, the vehicle broke down and the suspect, along with three passengers, were arrested.

The driver was identified as 39-year-old Shiena Watlamett from White Swan, an enrolled Native American.

She was taken into custody by Yakama Tribal Police Department.
