Yakima Christmas Lights Parade, tree lighting ceremony kicks off Sunday evening
YAKIMA, Wash. — The City of Yakima is kicking off its holiday festivities starting with their Holiday Pops Spectacular.
It’s a premier steel drum ensemble, giving a traditional family holiday program a little Caribbean flare.
This starts at 4 p.m. at The Capitol Theatre.
At 6 p.m., make sure to bundle up as you head out the door for the 19th Annual Christmas Lights Parade in Downtown Yakima. The route will start at 6th Avenue and head down Yakima Avenue to 3rd Street.
Organizers are expecting more than 4,000 people to attend. With the high volume of anticipated spectators, there are a few road closures to keep in mind.
Starting at 4 p.m., there will be no on-street parking on the parade route until the parade is over. Heavy traffic is expected.
Following the parade is the lighting ceremony at Millennium Plaza. This will start around 7 p.m.
For the next four Saturdays, free horse wagon rides will be offered. From 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., they’ll be offered every 20 to 25 minutes on a first-come, first-served basis. The rides are provided by the Downtown Association of Yakima.
Parking adjacent to Millennium Plaza will shut down during the horse wagon rides.
