Yakima City Council candidates winning by large margins Tuesday night
YAKIMA, Wash. — Kenton Gartrell took the lead Tuesday in the race for Yakima City Council District 1 with Eliana Macias in a 213 to 142 preliminary count. Gartrell had about 60 percent of the total, according to initial results.
Patricia Byers had 575 votes, or 59 percent for position 3. There are 184 votes separating Byers and Thomas Sund Tuesday, with more ballots to be counted Wednesday.
Soneya Lund took the lead Tuesday in the race for Yakima City Council District 5 with Liz Hallock in a 642 to 441 preliminary count. Lund had about 59 percent of the total, according to initial results.
“My campaign has been a really positive one. It has been mostly focused on things like parks and rec and infrastructure,” said Lund after the preliminary results came in. “And then finding data driven solutions to combating our homelessness issues and I’m just really excited to go to work for those.”
Holly Cousens had 1,093 votes, or 75 percent for district 7. Sarah Towell’s name was still on the ballot even though she withdrew from the race in early October.
