Yakima city crews and Transform Yakima Together members working together to have homeless camp ready
YAKIMA, WASH. — The new homeless encampment in Yakima will open tomorrow and city workers and members of Transform Yakima Together have been working to have the camp ready.
Today is the last night homeless winter shelters will operate… the reason why the camp has to be up and running by tomorrow afternoon.
With a $150,000 budget for the camp, the site will provide tents, porta potty, benches, and food under 24-hour security.
Transform Yakima Together’s’ executive director said this will be a much more organized camp site than the last one.
“Guest will have to register and it’ll be limited to capacity, our initial capacity will be 60 individuals and so it’s not a free for all that you can come and go as you please,” said Andy Ferguson, Executive Director of Transform Yakima Together.
Ferguson adds they are in need of volunteers that want to provide meals for the guests or to simply just to go and socialize with the homeless community.
