Yakima Diocese publishes names of 20+ clergymen accused of abusing children
YAKIMA, Wash. – The Catholic Diocese of Yakima has published a list of clergymen who’ve faced substantiated accusations of sexually abusing children.
Yakima Bishop Joseph J. Tyson says the list is part of diocese’s commitment to transparency, and he hopes it will encourage more victims to come forward.
More than 20 priests and deacons who served the Diocese of Yakima are on the list, and more than a third of those worked in the Tri-Cities area. Many of them are now deceased.
Locations of known assignments are listed. However, this does not mean that there are allegations of abuse at each place.
Anyone sexually abused by clergy or by anyone working on behalf of the Church is encouraged to contact the Yakima Diocese Victim Assistance Coordinator at 1-888-276-4490, or local law enforcement.
