UNION GAP, Wash. — With warm weather arriving across Southeastern Washington, delicious produce is coming into season. You can support local farms and small-business owners by purchasing your produce and other goods at the Yakima Farmers’ Market, which begins its weekly operation for the year on Sunday, May 9 at the Valley Mall in Union Gap.

The Yakima Farmers’ Market is opening for the season and will operate every Sunday until Halloween (Oct. 31, 2021). The market runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each week with fresh fruits and vegetables from regional farms. Participating farms from the Yakima Valley region include Bautista Farms, Fernandez Farms, Six Kids Farm, and Lara Farm.

Additionally, food vendors will be on-site serving up delicious cuisine from around the region. According to representatives of the farmers’ market, participating vendors include Lucy’s Mexican food, Thai Food Catering, LaFang Pinoy, Old Farm House Cookies, Kettle Corn, and Pork Rind.

With vaccination efforts in full swing, Yakima Farmers’ Market Manager Don Eastridge is looking forward to seeing the market get back to normal after a difficult year.

“Last year was really hard on everyone as we couldn’t offer the full Farmers’ Market experience,” Eastridge said. “So, we’re glad the public will once again meet with local farmers and enjoy fresh produce. Everything is harvested within 24 hours of coming to market so it’s incredibly fresh. We will set up hand sanitation stations and just ask visitors to wear masks and follow safe social distancing practices.”

Fresh flowers from Kirkland, Washington will also be available for purchase at this Sunday’s Yakima Farmers’ Market.

The event is held in the southwest parking lot of the Valley Mall shopping center near Sears. The mall is situated off exit 36 on I-82. For more information about the farmers’ market, click here.
