Yakima fire crews battle two, early morning fires

TOPPENISH, Wash. – While most people were asleep on Thursday morning, Yakima County Fire Crews were busy battling two structure fires in Toppenish and Wapato.

The first, was in the 400th block of Martin Road in Toppenish. Yakima Fire officials said the fire broke out in a large agricultural building. Yakima County Fire District Number Five started work on that fire. According to a Facebook post, that fire began around one in the morning.

Due to the size of the building, the crew requested assistance from West Valley Fire-Rescue and Yakima County Fire District Four – East Valley. They said they help was greatly appreciated.

As firefighter battled the flames from the fire in Toppenish, a second fire was reported in the 300th Block of Wayback Lane in Wapato.

Officials said that fire was burning in a small outbuilding but, had spread to a few cars and haystack. The City of Yakima Fire Department assisted in extinguishing flames.

As of 6:40 AM, crews were still cleaning up and getting equipment back into service.

Both fires have unknown causes, and nobody was injured.
