Yakima man dies after being hit by car in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS — A Yakima man died after being hit by a car while he was walking on a sidewalk in Las Vegas on Thursday, Jan. 16.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, the 53-year-old pedestrian was walking southbound along South Gilespie Street near East Sunset Street when the crash happened at about 11:24 a.m.

Police said a 2016 Kia Sportage driven by Crystal Bailey, 38, of Las Vegas crossed into lanes of oncoming traffic, left the road, jumped the curb and struck the man on the sidewalk. The car came to a rest in a landscaped area east of the sidewalk.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office identified the pedestrian as Daniel Garcia. He died from blunt force trauma and the manner of death was ruled as an accident.

Police said the driver was not intoxicated at the time of the crash. The cause is under investigation.

This is Las Vegas’ fifth traffic-related fatality of 2020.
